The Nigeria Fencing Federation said eight fencers will represent Nigeria at the 2026 African Senior Fencing Championships, scheduled to hold in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire.
The 2026 African Senior Fencing Championships will commence on June 1st and end on June 6th.
The President of the federation, Adeyinka Samuel, said in Abuja that the players are determined to make the country proud. According to him, the fencers have been training hard ahead of the championship.

“Our national coach has given them the necessary training, both technical and tactical, to ensure they have a good outing in Abidjanm” he said. “They will definitely win medals to make the country proud,”
The president said the fencers will compete in two categories: épée and sabre. The team comprises two women and six men. The women, Adebodunrin Thomas and Sara Idongesit, will both participate in the épée event.
The men competing in épée are Diekolola Johnson, Leonard Aninye, and Mahathir Idongesit. Inkosi Brou, Folayemi Akinyosoye, and Phoenix Olen will compete in sabre.
The president added that Nigeria’s top-ranked fencer, Inkosi Brou, will lead the national contingent as this will be Brou’s second appearance at the continental event.
The national coach, Ibrahim Alogba, assured that the fencers are confident.
“I am confident in the team. Hopefully, we can have more home-based athletes joining their foreign-based counterparts,” Alogba said.
“This tournament is excellent preparation for the 2026 Commonwealth Championships later this year.”
