The Wife of the Anambra State Governor, Dr. Nonye Soludo has urged Nigerians to embrace healthy living and proper nutrition as the World commemorates International Tea Day.
In a statement issued on Thursday in Awka by her Media Aide, Daniel Ezeigwe, the Anambra First Lady highlighted the health benefits of tea consumption and called for conscious dietary choices to promote healthier lifestyles.
Speaking as Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Healthy Living with Mrs Soludo, she described tea as a natural beverage rich in nutrients and antioxidants capable of boosting immunity, improving digestion, enhancing mental alertness, and supporting overall wellbeing.

Commenting on the 2026 theme, “Tea for Better Lives,” Mrs Soludo said tea remains one of the healthiest and most widely consumed beverages globally, with significant health, economic, and cultural value.
She noted that encouraging healthy tea consumption, particularly among families, could help build healthier communities and reduce lifestyle-related illnesses.
“Tea is more than just a beverage. It is a healthy lifestyle choice that promotes wellness, relaxation, and social connection. Nigerians must pay closer attention to their daily consumption habits to safeguard their health,” Mrs Soludo said.
The First Lady stressed the need to introduce healthy nutrition habits to children early in life, urging parents and guardians to encourage balanced diets and healthier alternatives to sugary drinks and processed foods.
According to her, “Children require nutritious meals and healthy beverages to support physical growth, brain development, and emotional wellbeing.”
She also called on Medical practitioners and nutrition experts to intensify awareness campaigns on preventive healthcare, healthy living, and the nutritional value of natural foods and beverages, including tea.
Mrs Soludo further urged governments at all levels to invest more in public health education, food safety, nutrition programmes, and policies that promote healthier lifestyles.
She warned that the rising prevalence of non-communicable diseases such as diabetes, obesity, hypertension, and heart-related illnesses underscored the need for preventive health measures through improved nutrition and healthy living practices.
The First Lady reaffirmed her commitment through the Healthy Living initiative to continue promoting wellness, healthy eating habits, environmental cleanliness, and preventive healthcare across communities in Anambra State and beyond.
The United Nations observes International Tea Day on 21 May every year. It is a global observance that celebrates the cultural, social, economic, and health importance of tea.
International Tea Day recognises tea as one of the world’s most consumed drinks after water. It also highlights the role of tea cultivation in supporting farmers, workers, small growers, local economies, and rural livelihoods.
