Gombe PDP Aspirants Seek Fairness in Primaries

Rebecca Mu’azu, Gombe

A coalition of governorship aspirants in the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has appealed to the leadership of the party in Gombe State to safeguard the integrity of its ongoing gubernatorial primary process amid reports of a possible defection by an aspirant from another party.

In a communiqué after a meeting, the four aspirants, Alhaji Abdulkadir Hamma Saleh, Hon. Khamisu Ahmed Mailantarki, Usman Aliyu Garry, and Monica Kaltho, urged party leaders to remain guided by the principles of fairness, party unity, and the rule of law.

The aspirants stressed that they had already demonstrated commitment to party cohesion by voluntarily signing an agreement empowering the PDP leadership to select a consensus candidate from among them.

According to them, the arrangement was reached in good faith to strengthen internal democracy and avoid division within the party.

They, however, cautioned against what they described as any attempt to introduce into the PDP primary process, another aspirant who had allegedly participated in another party’s governorship exercise.

According to the communiqué, allowing such a development could raise legal and constitutional concerns capable of jeopardising the party’s chances ahead of the 2027 Election.

While reiterating that the PDP remains open to new entrants and well-meaning supporters, the aspirants maintained that the sanctity of the party’s established process must be protected to avoid unnecessary disputes and litigation.

They therefore called on the party leadership to act with caution and preserve the credibility of the PDP in Gombe State.
