Nigerian Government Approves Major Sports Infrastructure Upgrades Nationwide

The Nigerian Government, through the National Sports Commission (NSC), has approved a major nationwide sports infrastructure revamp, aimed at repositioning Nigerian sports and restoring key facilities to international standards.

The projects include the complete rehabilitation and upgrade of the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja, upgrades to tracks, floodlights, media and athlete facilities, construction of a High Performance Centre, anti-doping laboratory and training pitches.

Also, redevelopment and development of the 200 room athletes’ hostel into a proper hotel, VAR installation, upgrades to medical facilities including new medical equipments, development of a sports centre to provide additional offices for all the sports federations across the country.

The initiative also extends to direct support for states hosting future National Sports Festivals and development of other elite sports infrastructure across the country, the construction of mini sports centres nationwide, and the establishment of sports facilities across some tertiary institutions.

The NSC said the unprecedented investments which is the first phase align with the Renewed Hope Agenda and shared prosperity vision of President Bola Tinubu, GCFR.

These initiatives are designed to position sports as a driver of youth empowerment, economic growth, talent development, and national unity.
