Police Commissioner Vows Discipline in Kwara Command

By Tunde Akanbi, Ilorin

The Commissioner of Police in Kwara State, CP Ojo Adekimi, has warned officers and men of the command against misconduct, indiscipline and unprofessional conduct, saying the Force will no longer tolerate acts capable of bringing the institution into disrepute.

The police Commissioner gave the warning during a strategic briefing with senior officers of the command in Ilorin, including Deputy Commissioners of Police, Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) and Tactical Commanders.

Adekimi said the directive was in line with the position of the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, stressing that the era of impunity within the force had ended and that officers must uphold the highest standards of integrity, discipline and professionalism.

He cautioned personnel to be mindful of their actions and conduct while carrying out official duties.

Adekimi noted that advances in digital technology and the widespread use of social media have placed officers under constant public scrutiny.

According to him, any officer found engaging in misconduct, incivility, abuse of authority, extortion, harassment or any other act capable of tarnishing the image of the force would face stringent disciplinary measures in line with police regulations.

The commissioner also sensitised officers on the Force’s Social Media Policy, warning against careless online behaviour, unauthorised dissemination of official information and activities that could compromise operational security or damage the reputation of the police.

As part of efforts to strengthen community policing and improve public safety, Adekimi directed all DPOs across the state to deepen engagement with religious leaders, school proprietors, principals and other critical stakeholders within their areas of responsibility.

He said “closer collaboration between communities and the police was necessary to safeguard places of worship, schools and other vulnerable public facilities from emerging security threats.”

The Commissioner reaffirmed the command’s commitment to professionalism, accountability, intelligence-led policing and community partnership.

He assured residents of Kwara State of continued efforts to protect lives and property, while enforcing discipline among police personnel.
