Kogi Assembly Ends Third Session with Major Legislative Gains

The Third Legislative Session of the Kogi State House of Assembly has officially come to an end, marking significant achievements in lawmaking, legislative debates, and the passage of bills aimed at advancing the development of the state.

The Speaker, Aliyu Umar Yusuf said this while presiding over the last session held on Thursday, 4th June and led the 3rd Anniversary ceremony at the Chambers.

He declared that the 8th Assembly had remained productive and people-oriented over the past three years, thereby accelerating the development of the State.

Highlighting major achievements, the Speaker said that the House received 23 bills during the current session. Notably, 19 Executive Bills and 4 Private Member’s Bills, with 19 already passed into law.

Yusuf said that “a total of 76 bills have been considered and has passed 59, marking a significant shift in law making of about 77 percent success rate.”

He attributed these results to the unity, cooperation, and commitment of members, stressing that the Assembly has continued to prioritise the interests of the people through effective lawmaking, oversight, and representation.

Yusuf stated that “the legislature’s critical role in approving and appropriating public funds for development projects across the state was carried out effectively, including investments in infrastructure, healthcare, education, agriculture, and social welfare programmes.”

Besides, he commended Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo for his vision and dedication to work, while establishing cordial working relationship with the legislature.

Yusuf praised the legislators and other staff for their cooperation and support, assuring workers of continued efforts to improve their welfare.
