Nigeria and the International Social Security Association (ISSA) have strengthened their partnership to enhance the delivery of social security services and improve employee protection in the workplace.
The Federal Government, through the Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF), said its collaboration with ISSA has reinforced Nigeria’s commitment to advancing social security and employee compensation systems.
The development followed a meeting held on the sidelines of the 114th International Labour Conference currently taking place in Geneva, Switzerland, where the Secretary-General of ISSA, Marcelo Abi-Ramia Caetano, met with a delegation from the NSITF.
The delegation was led by the Executive Director (Administration), Mr Samaila Abdu, who represented the Managing Director of NSITF, Mr Oluwaseun Faleye.
During the meeting, the ISSA Secretary-General praised NSITF for successfully hosting a regional conference in Abuja earlier this year. He also commended the Faleye-led management team for its commitment to promoting the growth and development of social security and employee protection across the West African sub-region.

Mr Caetano further lauded NSITF’s continued support for ISSA’s activities and its contribution to the advancement of social security initiatives in Africa and around the world.
On 22 and 23 April 2026, NSITF hosted social security institutions from across West Africa at an ISSA conference in Abuja. The conference, themed “Improving Inclusiveness and Accessibility of Social Security Services Through Effective Communication in West Africa”, brought together key stakeholders to discuss strategies for expanding access to social protection services in the region.
ISSA is the world’s leading organisation for social security institutions, representing more than 340 member organisations across 165 countries.
