The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda says the economic reforms and investments being implemented by the Tinubu administration are geared towards building a $1 trillion economy.
Speaking at the Workshop of Renewed Ambassadors Coordinators in Abuja, Yilwatda said President Tinubu inherited significant economic challenges in 2023 but opted for bold and difficult reforms aimed at securing long-term prosperity for the country.
According to him, “three years into the administration, Nigeria is beginning to reap the benefits of those reforms, with improvements recorded in macroeconomic stability, fiscal management, foreign exchange administration and investor confidence.”
He noted that Nigeria’s foreign reserves have risen to over $50 billion, while government revenues have increased significantly through improved tax administration, transparency measures and the removal of fuel subsidy.
The APC chairman also highlighted growing investor confidence, revealing that multinational energy company Shell has committed fresh investments worth $20 billion in Nigeria.
He said that the country recorded a trade surplus of ₦7.55 trillion in the first quarter of 2026.
Yilwatda said; “the administration’s infrastructure programme remains central to achieving the $1 trillion economy target, citing projects such as the Lagos–Calabar Coastal Highway, the Sokoto–Badagry Super Highway, the Ajaokuta–Kaduna–Kano Gas Pipeline and ongoing rail modernisation initiatives.”
“These are not isolated projects. They are components of a comprehensive national economic architecture designed to support President Tinubu’s vision of a one-trillion-dollar economy,” he said.
The APC Chairman further pointed to investments in human capital development, including the Nigerian Education Loan Fund, which he said has expanded access to higher education financing for about 1.5 million young Nigerians.
According to Yilwatda, “the administration is also strengthening healthcare infrastructure through expanded health insurance coverage and the establishment of cancer treatment centres across the country.”
He urged members of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors to effectively communicate government policies and achievements to Nigerians, stressing that policies, projects and statistics require effective storytelling to connect with citizens.
“Together, we can support the realisation of a one-trillion-dollar economy. Together, we can strengthen our democracy. Together, we can build a prosperous and united Nigeria,” he stated.
