2027 Election: PDP Vows to Reclaim Key States

By Chika Eze, Abuja

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has expressed confidence that it will reclaim political control of Gombe, Bauchi, Abia and Oyo states in the 2027 general elections.

The party’s National Secretary, Samuel Anyanwu, stated this during a grand reception organised by the PDP National Youth Wing in Abuja in honour of the party’s National Chairman, Abdulrahman Mohammed.

Senator Anyanwu maintained that there is only one PDP, stressing that recent clarification by the Independent National Electoral Commission confirmed that all leadership disputes within the party had been resolved following Supreme Court decisions on the matter.

According to him, the party has emerged stronger from its internal challenges and is now focused on rebuilding its structures ahead of future elections.

He commended the Mohammed-led National Working Committee for revitalising the PDP Youth Wing, noting that the current National Youth Leader had succeeded in uniting various youth groups within a short period.

“The youth have demonstrated that they are ready to mobilise and reclaim the party’s electoral mandate across the country,” he said.

In his remarks, the PDP National Chairman, Abdulrahman Mohammed, said the party had regained stability and was prepared to offer Nigerians a credible alternative.

He expressed appreciation to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, for his support for youth inclusion and for contributing to what he described as a smooth leadership transition within the party.

Mohammed urged young people and women to reject political violence and participate actively and credibly in the democratic process.

He also pledged to engage party elders on the need for greater youth participation in leadership and decision-making, while advising state party secretaries to strictly adhere to the party constitution and INEC guidelines to prevent internal crises.

Earlier, the PDP National Youth Leader, Ibrahim Bala-Aboki, described Mohammed’s emergence as National Chairman as a landmark achievement for young people within the party.

He said Mohammed’s rise from FCT Organising Secretary to North Central Vice-Chairman and eventually National Chairman demonstrated the PDP’s commitment to youth empowerment.

Bala-Aboki announced the establishment of the PDP National Youth Leadership Consultative Forum and the commencement of a nationwide revalidation exercise for all youth support groups affiliated with the party.

He described the event as a declaration that the time had come for young people to take greater responsibility in shaping Nigeria’s political future.
