Ekiti Poll: Electoral Officers Begin Voter Accreditation

Sekinat Salam, Ado Ekiti

Electoral officers have commenced accreditation of voters in the Ekiti State Governorship and House of Assembly elections in southwest Nigeria, with residents of Ado-Ekiti, the state capital, turning out en masse to elect a new governor.

The poll officially opened at 8:30 a.m. local time, as electoral officials began the exercise across designated polling units.

There was an early movement of voters in parts of the state capital, with many arriving at polling centres ahead of the commencement of the exercise.

Security personnel and election observers were also deployed to monitor the process and maintain order.

The election is being closely watched as a key democratic exercise in Nigeria’s electoral calendar, with stakeholders expressing optimism for a peaceful, transparent and credible poll.

Voting is expected to continue throughout the day, after which votes will be counted and results collated in accordance with electoral guidelines.
