High Spirits as Ado-Ekiti Residents Vote in Governorship Poll

By Yinka Salaam, Osogbo

Residents of Ado-Ekiti turned out in high spirits on Saturday to participate in the Ekiti governorship election, expressing enthusiasm and confidence in the electoral process as voting commenced peacefully across several polling units

Election materials arrived early, while voters queued orderly to cast their ballots in an atmosphere marked by optimism and civic engagement.

The exercise witnessed orderly conduct as many voters expressed confidence in the security agencies and the electoral body, saying they believed their votes would count.

A voter living with hearing impairment, Mr. Razaq Bakare, described the process as peaceful and commended the government, the electoral umpire and other stakeholders for ensuring a smooth election.

Bakare also praised the Ekiti State Government for its efforts toward improving the welfare of persons with disabilities. He, however, urged authorities to create more employment opportunities and support systems for people living with disabilities.

“I have participated in every election since I turned 18, and I am happy with the peaceful atmosphere today,” he said.

Similarly, Mrs. Ruth Fasoranti, who lives with a spinal cord disability, lauded the peaceful conduct of the election, noting that persons with disabilities were able to exercise their civic rights without fear or intimidation.

She called on the government to further improve security and the welfare of citizens.

Fasoranti also urged the eventual winner of the election to regard the mandate of the people as a sacred trust and a social contract that must not be betrayed.
