The Nigeria Police Force has intensified efforts to address rising health concerns among its personnel with the launch of the “Know Your Number” campaign in Kwara State.
The initiative is designed to tackle preventable medical conditions linked to sudden collapse and death among officers and was flagged off by the Director of Force Medical Services, AIG Nkechi Ifeoma Eze, underscoring the Force leadership’s commitment to improving the welfare, health and operational efficiency of personnel nationwide.
Speaking during a series of health awareness lectures held for officers and men of the Kwara State Command, AIG Eze warns against the dangers of silent health conditions such as hypertension, diabetes, prostate cancer, and other ailments that often go undetected until they become life-threatening.
According to Eze, the campaign is aimed at encouraging police personnel to routinely monitor vital health indicators and embrace preventive healthcare measures.
“The ‘Know Your Number’ Campaign is designed to encourage personnel to routinely monitor key health indicators, embrace preventive healthcare practices, and seek timely medical intervention where necessary,” she said.
AIG Eze further noted that good health remains critical not only to the personal well-being of officers but also to their ability to effectively carry out policing duties and deliver quality public service.
The initiative aligns with the welfare agenda of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, who has prioritised the health and resilience of police personnel as part of efforts to build a more effective and productive workforce.
As part of the exercise, medical teams conducted free health screenings for officers, including blood pressure and blood sugar tests, as well as other basic medical examinations aimed at helping personnel understand their health status.
The Commissioner of Police in Kwara State, CP Ojo Adekimi, expressed gratitude to the Inspector-General of Police and the Force Medical Services Department for bringing the programme to the state command.
He reaffirmed the command’s commitment to supporting initiatives that promote the welfare and professional efficiency of police personnel.
The development was disclosed in a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer of the Kwara State Command, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, who said the campaign forms part of ongoing efforts by the Force to safeguard the health of officers and enhance their capacity to serve the nation effectively.
