Wike Pledges Inclusive Infrastructure Development Across FCT

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mr Nyesom Wike, has assured residents that no district in the nation’s capital will be left behind in the ongoing infrastructure development programme of President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

Wike gave the assurance on Friday during the inauguration of the 3.4-kilometre Collector Road CO1 and Collector Road CO2 in the Mabushi District, Abuja.

He said the administration was committed to ensuring that both the city centre and satellite towns benefited from ongoing infrastructure projects aimed at improving connectivity, stimulating economic activities and enhancing the quality of life for residents.

The minister noted that the transformation taking place in Karu had significantly changed the area’s outlook, adding that its level of development now compares favourably with many parts of the Federal Capital City.

According to him, the Karu road network has been completed and is ready for inauguration, describing the project as one that has opened up the area for further growth and investment.

“I don’t know why we should still be referring to Karu as a satellite town. I believe Karu should be regarded as part of the capital city rather than a satellite town,” Wike said.

He also highlighted the newly constructed interchange linking Jahi and Gwarinpa districts, describing it as a major milestone in improving connectivity across the capital.

According to the minister, Gwarinpa is one of the largest residential districts in the country, making the new road link an important addition to Abuja’s transport infrastructure.

Wike observed that inadequate infrastructure had previously slowed real estate development in several parts of the FCT. He, however, said the construction of new roads had triggered increased private investment, with developers accelerating housing projects and more people seeking residential and commercial properties in the affected areas.

The minister also noted that the rapid execution of infrastructure projects had been made possible through the support of President Tinubu, who, he said, had consistently provided the necessary backing for project implementation.

He added that the administration remained focused on delivering projects that would improve mobility, promote investment and support sustainable urban development across the FCT.

Inaugurating the roads, President Bola Tinubu, represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima, commended the FCT Administration for its efforts in expanding road infrastructure across the capital.

The President said the projects reflected the administration’s commitment to ensuring that development reached all parts of the FCT.

“I gave you a simple charge: ‘Make Abuja work for all.’ From the satellite towns to the city centre, you are translating plans into infrastructure that directly benefits the people,” Tinubu said.

The FCT Minister of State, Dr Mariya Mahmoud, described the road inauguration as another milestone under the Renewed Hope Agenda, noting that the administration remained committed to improving infrastructure and enhancing the well-being of residents.

She commended President Tinubu for his leadership and acknowledged Wike’s role in driving the implementation of critical infrastructure projects across the territory.

Mahmoud urged residents to protect and make proper use of public infrastructure, stressing that preserving such investments was a shared responsibility for the benefit of present and future generations.

Earlier, the Acting Executive Secretary of the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA), Mr Richard Dauda, disclosed that the project was awarded in February 2025.

He explained that Mabushi District is located within Phase II of the Federal Capital City and is bordered by Katampe to the north, Wuye to the south, Wuse II to the east and Kado District to the west.

Dauda said Collector Road CO1 begins from Ahmadu Bello Way near the Mabushi Bus Terminal and reconnects to the same road at the Next Cash and Carry Junction on Wole Soyinka Way, while Collector Road CO2 branches from CO1 and links to the Northern Parkway near the Vehicle Inspection Office (VIO) headquarters.

According to him, the completion of the roads has improved access to the district, reduced travel time, enhanced security and created new opportunities for investment and development in Mabushi.
