The Nigerian Minister of Works, David Umahi, has called on citizens to hold their Ministers rather than the President accountable for any failure in governance.
The minister made the call when he was decorated as the Patron of the National Association of Nigerian Students by the union’s leadership at the Ministry of Works headquarters in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital.
He said political discussions should not be centred on religious sentiments or personalities but should be on performance.

“What has religion got to do with performance? If we agree that we are brothers and sisters, forget about your religion, because nobody intentionally chose a religion. It is based on where you were born, and we are created by the same God. Nobody fights for God. God fights for Himself. Let us face issues. Issues. The Vice President is very articulate and very intelligent. What has religion got to do with this?” He asked.
He further highlighted the progress made by the Tinubu administration, saying the macroeconomy has been fixed, no more University strikes, the stability of the naira, and the growth of the GDP, which he said “is growing more than our population”
He urged the association to take a stand ahead of the 2027 General Election in Nigeria.
“I want you to take a side. If you say, by this decoration, that what we are doing is good, we have to take a stand to vote for the President.
Let him finish. Let him take back our country. Let him reposition our country. And this is very clear, very important,” he stated.
