Benue APC Aspirant Urges Fresh Primary, Seeks Declaration As Winner

By Aloysius Umalo, Makurdi

A governorship aspirant of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Benue State, Dr. Jeffrey Kuraun, has urged the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) to declare him the winner of the governorship primary election scheduled for May 21, 2026, insisting he was the only aspirant who fully met the party’s preparatory requirements for the exercise.

In a statement issued in Makurdi on Friday, Kuraun alleged that he was the only cleared governorship aspirant who submitted a comprehensive list of Local Government and Ward Agents to the APC Governorship Election Committee before the scheduled primary.

According to him, the submission was duly acknowledged at the APC State Secretariat in Makurdi, while no other aspirant, including the incumbent governor, complied with the same requirement.

The APC chieftain further claimed that his agents were fully mobilised and deployed across wards and local government areas in readiness for the primary election.

He, however, alleged that election materials were never deployed to the field despite being verified earlier at the APC State Secretariat by his representative, Dr. Samuel Tondo, in the presence of the governor’s representative.

Preparedness and Compliance

Kuraun said he was prepared to provide pictorial and video evidence to support his claims regarding his level of preparedness and compliance with the party’s guidelines.

He argued that, based on what he described as his full compliance with the party’s processes, the APC National Working Committee should declare him the valid winner of the governorship primary.

“I respectfully urge the National Working Committee of our great party to declare me the valid winner of the APC Governorship Primary Election in Benue State, having been the only aspirant demonstrably prepared for the exercise in accordance with the party’s processes and requirements,” he stated.

As an alternative, Kuraun called on the APC leadership to conduct a fresh governorship primary under an independent committee to be constituted and supervised directly by the National Working Committee to guarantee transparency and credibility.

The NWC of APC is however yet to officially respond to the allegations or demands of the aspirant.
