The Sokoto State Government has revitalised the State Specialist Hospital through extensive renovation and improved infrastructure.
The effort also includes the provision of modern medical equipment, as part of efforts to strengthen healthcare delivery across the state.
The Chief Medical Director of the hospital, Dr. Attahiru Isa, while briefing journalists in Sokoto, said the intervention by Governor Ahmed Aliyu has transformed the once-deteriorating facility into a functional healthcare centre offering round-the-clock services.
According to him, the hospital now attends to more than 5,000 patients daily and has regained its status as one of the state’s leading referral health facilities.

“When I assumed office, most of the hospital’s infrastructure had deteriorated, vital facilities were vandalised and there was an acute shortage of electricity and water. Today, the situation has changed significantly through the governor’s intervention,” Dr. Isa said.
He explained that several non-functional boreholes have been restored, while a new 360KVA generator now provides reliable alternative electricity to the hospital, ending years of frequent power outages.

Solar Power
The Chief Medical Director also revealed that solar power systems have been installed across the facility to guarantee uninterrupted electricity, ensuring that critical medical procedures are no longer disrupted.
“The era of conducting surgical operations with torchlights is over. We now have stable electricity, adequate drugs and essential medical consumables to support quality healthcare services,” he said.
According to Dr. Isa, the state government has supplied new hospital beds, mattresses and other medical equipment, while theatres, wards and the General Out-Patient Department have undergone comprehensive renovation.
He noted that under the current administration, the hospital provides free medication for children under the age of five and pregnant women, as well as nutritional supplements for malnourished children through its complementary feeding programme.
The CMD commended Governor Ahmed Aliyu for prioritising the health sector under his administration’s development agenda, describing the sustained investment as a major boost to healthcare delivery in Sokoto State.

He also appreciated the State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Faruk Wurno, for his continued support and commitment to improving healthcare services at the hospital.
Dr. Isa expressed confidence that the ongoing investments would further enhance access to quality medical care and strengthen the hospital’s capacity to meet the healthcare needs of residents across the state.
