Young table tennis stars, aged between 9 and 19, are currently in intensive training at the Nigeria Table Tennis Federation (NTTF) national camp, ahead of three major international tournaments scheduled for later this month in Ghana and Guinea.
The camp, hosted at Babcock University in Ogun State, enjoys the full support of the institution’s management under the leadership of Vice Chancellor, Professor Afolarin Ojewole. They will be supervised by coach, Dotun Omoniyi and four other coaches.
The group, comprising 18 girls and 17 boys, is sharpening their skills for the Africa Hopes Week and Challenge, the West African Regional Championships, and the African Youth Championships.
Professor Ojewole praised the players’ discipline and skill, noting that the initiative reflects Babcock University’s vision of holistic education.
“Sports are vital in shaping character, instilling discipline, and nurturing future leaders. The determination, resilience, and sportsmanship these young athletes display are qualities the world needs today,” he said.
NTTF President, Adesoji Tay,o highlighted that the camp is not a one-off initiative, revealing a strategic partnership with Babcock University to establish the institution as a permanent training base for Nigeria’s national teams.
“This campus offers everything focus, nutrition, medical care, and world-class facilities. It is an ideal environment for our players to thrive,” he stated, while commending the university’s commitment to supporting the athletes.
The three tournaments will serve as crucial qualifying events for young Nigerian players seeking to make their mark on the international stage.
