Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru has reaffirmed Ebonyi State’s partnership with the Nigerian Army, describing the newly established Depot Nigerian Army, Amasiri-Edda, as a strategic investment in national security, regional stability and military readiness.
The Governor made the remarks during a state banquet held in honour of the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, according to a statement by the Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Colonel Appolonia Anele.
Governor Nwifuru commended the Nigerian Army for its continued sacrifices in defending Nigeria’s territorial integrity and maintaining internal security.
He noted hat “the establishment of the Depot will strengthen force generation, improve operational readiness and reinforce the South-East security architecture.”
The Governor assured the Nigerian Army of the Ebonyi State Government’s continued support, describing sustained collaboration between the state and the military as essential to preserving peace and promoting development.
Lieutenant General Shaibu expressed appreciation to the Ebonyi State Government and the people of the state for supporting the establishment of Depot Nigerian Army, Amasiri-Edda, which he said “would enhance manpower development, improve training standards and strengthen the Army’s capacity to respond to evolving security challenges.”
The Chief of Army Staff reaffirmed the Nigerian Army’s commitment to combining kinetic and non-kinetic approaches through intelligence-led operations, stronger civil-military cooperation and closer collaboration with other security agencies and local communities.
He stressed that lasting security depends on collective action, mutual trust and sustained partnerships between the military and the citizens it serves.
The banquet brought together senior government officials, traditional rulers, security stakeholders and other dignitaries, with cultural performances and goodwill messages highlighting the shared commitment of Ebonyi State and the Nigerian Army to advancing national unity, regional stability and lasting peace.
