The Sokoto State Governor, Ahmad Aliyu, has donated 10 Hilux vans to support the construction of the Sokoto-Badagry Highway, reaffirming the state’s commitment to the Federal Government’s flagship infrastructure project.
The vehicles were received on behalf of the Federal Government by the Minister of State for Works, Bello Goronyo, on Wednesday in Sokoto.
Governor Aliyu said the donation fulfilled the state government’s pledge to support the project, noting that the highway would enhance connectivity and promote economic development across the country.
He described the road as a strategic national asset that would strengthen transportation links among states and facilitate trade and investment.

Speaking at the event, Goronyo said the 1,068-kilometre Sokoto-Badagry Highway is one of the legacy projects of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu aimed at accelerating socio-economic development and improving infrastructure nationwide.
The minister said the donated vehicles would support ongoing project activities, particularly security surveillance and operational logistics.
He commended the Sokoto State Government for the gesture and assured that the vehicles would be put to proper use.
Earlier, the Federal Controller of Works in Sokoto State, Kassimu Maigwandu, said the Sokoto section of the project covers 120 kilometres and includes a six-lane concrete carriageway, bridges, solar-powered street lighting and a railway line.
According to him, the project will also feature CCTV cameras, health posts, security stations and other facilities to ensure prompt emergency response along the corridor.
Maigwandu explained that construction is being executed in phases across several communities, with work progressing simultaneously at six locations under adequate security arrangements.
“The legacy project is more than infrastructure; it rejuvenates agriculture, tourism, education, health, and overall economic development for citizens,” he said.
The Governor recently also donated 62 armoured vehicles, 300 motorcycles and other security equipment valued at ₦27 billion to security agencies to support efforts to combat banditry and other security challenges in the state.
