The Senator representing Niger North Senatorial District, Senator Abubakar Sani Bello, has paid condolence visit to Niger State Governor, Umar Mohammed Bago, following the death of more than 30 people allegedly linked to mining activities in Minna.
The visit was disclosed in a statement by Muawiyah Yusuf Muye, Media Adviser to Senator Abubakar Sani Bello.
Bello, who is Chairman of the Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs, visited the Niger State Government House, where he expressed solidarity with Governor Bago, the state government and families of the victims.
“I sympathise with you, my brother, the Farmer Governor, and the good people of Niger State at this difficult time. My solidarity and prayers are with you, the Governor, the entire Niger State Government, its people, and especially the families who have lost their loved ones,” he said.
The Senator commended Governor Bago for his response to the incident and for ensuring that the Nigerian Government moved to establish a committee to investigate the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.
Bello later visited the Emir of Minna to offer his condolences to the Minna Emirate and families affected by the incident.
He said traditional rulers had an important role to play in maintaining peace, particularly during crises, because of their close relationship with the communities.
“Our Royal Fathers carry a great responsibility, especially at moments like this. They remain closer to their people and are often called upon to help calm tensions and provide guidance when tragedy strikes,” he said.
Bello prayed for the bereaved families and the people of Niger State, asking Allah to grant the deceased eternal rest and provide the affected families with strength and comfort.
