President Bola Tinubu has inaugurated the remodelled Abuja City Gate, the iconic entrance to Nigeria’s Federal Capital Territory (FCT), reaffirming his administration’s commitment to modern infrastructure and national unity.
Representing the President at the inauguration, First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu urged residents of the Federal Capital Territory to protect and preserve the landmark, describing it as a ‘symbol of national pride and shared identity.’

President Tinubu underscored the importance of any City Gate worldwide saying; “When we look at a nation’s capital, it represents the heart of its people.
“Abuja is Nigeria’s diplomatic and administrative centre, where all 36 states meet. Therefore, the city gate is one of the major first impressions of this city that welcomes visitors, reflects the character of our people, and communicates the pride our nation takes in its capital.”
“This newly remodeled Abuja city gate, with its beautiful water fountain representing the 36 States and the Federal Capital Territory, tells every visitor and Nigerians arriving from the airport that they have entered a city built on unity, diversity, and shared aspirations. This city gate can proudly stand side by side with notable gateways and public monuments in many cities around the world,” President Tinubu said.
He further said the remodeled City Gate is a towering monument to Nigeria’s unity in diversity commemorating the 3rd anniversary of his administration and the 50th anniversary of the Federal Capital Territory.
He appreciated the Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike, for implementing the project that now gives a new look to the city of Abuja.

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike praised the representative of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the First Lady, who he credited with the idea that gave birth to the new look of the City Gate.
Wike said; “What is the role of the First Lady, it is to fill the gaps where necessary. She called my attention to the bad shape which the City Gate was in before. People should emulate what you are doing and thinking about the nation.
“When people come here now, for their social events, to take pictures, they can say ‘I am overseas, the overseas I am is Nigeria.”
Built in 1991 by the Ibrahim Babangida administration as a welcoming monument to mark the relocation of the three arms of government to Abuja as Nigeria’s new Federal Capital Territory (FCT), the remodelled Abuja City Gate is the latest landmark infrastructure completed and inaugurated by the FCT Administration to commemorate the third anniversary of the Tinubu administration.
