Women Affairs Minister Arrives in Pakistan for OIC Conference

Nigeria’s Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Hajiya Imaan Sulaiman Ibrahim, has arrived in Islamabad, Pakistan, to represent the country at the 9th Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Ministerial Conference on Women.

The Minister on arrival in the Islamic Republic of Pakistan ahead of the conference was received by the Chargé d’Affaires at the Nigerian High Commission in Pakistan, Ambassador Yushau Muhammad.

Hosted by the Government of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan through its Ministry of Human Rights, the 9th OIC Ministerial Conference on Women will hold in Islamabad from July 12 to 13, 2026, with the theme “Socio-Economic and Political Empowerment of Women in the OIC Countries: Challenges and Way Forward”.

The conference aims to provide a high-level platform for Member States of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to deliberate on policy initiatives, exchange best practices and strengthen collaboration towards advancing women’s empowerment, gender equality and inclusive socio-economic development across OIC Member States.

Discussions will focus on women’s leadership and participation in decision-making, economic empowerment and financial inclusion, strengthening legal and institutional frameworks for gender equality, enhancing women’s resilience in the face of emerging global challenges, and promoting cooperation among OIC Member States on gender-related issues.

During the conference, Minister Sulaiman-Ibrahim will present Nigeria’s activities on women’s empowerment under the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, as well as the country’s position on key issues affecting women across OIC Member States.

Nigeria’s participation provides an opportunity to showcase the Federal Government’s ongoing reforms and achievements in promoting women’s empowerment while strengthening bilateral and multilateral cooperation with other OIC member states.

The Minister’s strategic participation will enable Nigeria to showcase its progress, policies, and programmes on women’s empowerment and gender equality at the ministerial level and strengthen international partnerships and technical cooperation with OIC member states and development partners.

It will also promote knowledge exchange and the adoption of global best practices relevant to the Ministry’s mandate, and enhance Nigeria’s visibility and leadership in regional and international discussions on women’s development.

Nigeria’s participation underscores the Federal Government’s commitment under the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, to advancing the rights, well-being, and socio-economic empowerment of women and girls through strategic partnerships, inclusive policies, and sustainable development.
