The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has partnered with the Federal Ministry of Transportation to facilitate the connection of the Kano Railway Station and other railway operational facilities to the national grid as part of efforts to provide stable and reliable electricity for rail operations.

The collaboration was reinforced during a strategic stakeholders’ engagement held on 7 July 2026 at the TCN Kano Regional Headquarters, where key stakeholders reviewed plans for the proposed grid connection.

According to TCN, the meeting focused on the project’s technical requirements, implementation timelines, operational coordination, system reliability, and the roles and responsibilities of participating agencies to ensure successful execution.

Stakeholders also discussed compliance with grid standards, network safety measures, and the seamless integration of the railway facilities into the national transmission network.

Speaking during the engagement, the General Manager (Transmission), TCN Kano Region, Engr M. K. Bello, stressed the importance of sustained collaboration among all stakeholders, noting that early technical planning would facilitate smooth project implementation and guarantee a reliable electricity supply to the railway infrastructure.

He said the planned grid connection would enhance the operational efficiency of railway services in Kano and support the federal government’s drive to strengthen critical national infrastructure through a dependable power supply.

The stakeholders reaffirmed their commitment to delivering the project in line with the federal government’s infrastructure development agenda, expressing confidence that the initiative would improve service delivery in Nigeria’s transportation sector.

The meeting was attended by representatives of the Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO) Kano Region, the Federal Ministry of Transportation, Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO), Team Nigeria, the project consultants, and the project contractor, China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC).
