Chief of Staff Urges Youths to Prioritise National Interest

Temitope Mustapha, Abuja

The Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, has urged Nigerian youths to embrace responsibility, uphold national unity and place the country’s interests above personal ambition to accelerate national development.

Gbajabiamila made the call in a goodwill message to participants at the 2026 National Retreat of the City Boy Movement, themed “Youth, Unity and Action.”

He described the retreat as a strategic investment in Nigeria’s future, noting that it comes at a critical period of economic transformation and institutional renewal under the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

According to him, Nigeria’s future depends on young people who are willing to prioritise service, sacrifice and purposeful action.

“No nation rises above the quality of its youth. Every generation’s destiny is shaped by its willingness to embrace responsibility, uphold unity and turn vision into action. The future we seek will not arrive by chance; it will be built deliberately by men and women who choose service over self, sacrifice over comfort, and nation over narrow interest,” Gbajabiamila said.

He stated that the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has addressed longstanding structural challenges through key economic reforms, including the removal of fuel subsidy, the unification of the foreign exchange market and reforms aimed at modernising the country’s tax system.

The Chief of Staff said the measures are gradually restoring economic stability, easing inflationary pressures and improving investor confidence.

“These bold reforms are steadily restoring economic stability, with inflation easing and renewed investor confidence in the Nigerian economy,” he said.

The Chief of Staff added that investments in infrastructure, human capital development and youth empowerment programmes, including the student loan scheme and technical skills initiatives, are creating opportunities for young Nigerians.

He commended the Patron and National Leader of the City Boy Movement, Barrister Seyi Tinubu, for his commitment to youth development and leadership mentoring.

Gbajabiamila described the retreat’s theme as timely, saying it reflects the values needed to advance Nigeria’s development agenda.

He noted that youth represent innovation, resilience and courage, while unity enables the country to harness its diversity as a source of strength.

According to him, meaningful progress can only be achieved when ideas are translated into practical action and measurable results.

The Chief of Staff urged members of the City Boy Movement to serve as ambassadors of the Renewed Hope Agenda by promoting peaceful engagement, fostering unity and inspiring confidence among young Nigerians.

Meanwhile, the Director-General of the City Boy Movement, Francis Oluwatosin Shoga, unveiled the organisation’s strategic roadmap to mobilise 10 million youth votes for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election in 2027.

Shoga said the strategy focuses on strengthening grassroots mobilisation through expanded structures across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, with increased engagement at the ward level.

He explained that the approach aims to counter misinformation, deepen community participation and promote awareness of the Renewed Hope Agenda.

The second day of the retreat, themed “National Leadership, Mobilisation and Strategy,” brought together state coordinators of the City Boy Movement, members of its National Working Committee and other stakeholders.

Among those in attendance were the movement’s Patron, Barrister Seyi Tinubu, the Minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, and other government officials and youth leaders.
