The Sultan of Sokoto and Chairman of the Northern Traditional Rulers Council, His Eminence, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, has appointed the Adamawa monarch, His Royal Majesty, Kuruhaye Dishon Dasanda II, Turunwe!! (Kwandi Nunguraya), as the North-East Coordinator of the Northern Traditional Rulers Council.
The appointment places the monarch in a strategic position to strengthen collaboration among traditional institutions and deepen community engagement across the North-East.
The people of the region have described the appointment as timely, saying it recognises the important role traditional rulers play in promoting peace, unity and grassroots development.
Traditional rulers remain key custodians of the history, culture and values of their communities. They also serve as an important link between government and the grassroots, particularly in peacebuilding, conflict resolution, community mobilisation and development.
Across the North-East, traditional institutions continue to play a significant role in mediating disputes, promoting peaceful coexistence and mobilising communities to support government programmes and development initiatives.
As North-East Coordinator, the monarch is expected to use his experience and traditional leadership to promote greater cooperation among traditional rulers and strengthen the voice of communities across the region.
The new responsibility also provides the Nunguraya traditional institution with an opportunity to contribute to wider efforts aimed at strengthening peace, stability, social cohesion and development in the North-East.
A congratulatory message described the appointment as a proud moment for Nungura, Adamawa State and the entire North-East, expressing confidence that the monarch would bring his experience, wisdom and leadership to bear on the new responsibility.
The appointment further highlights the continuing relevance of traditional institutions as partners in addressing community challenges and building peaceful, united and resilient communities across Northern Nigeria.
