Former Super Eagles captain Joseph Yobo has hinted at a possible future in politics while commending the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mr Nyesom Wike, for what he described as raising the standard of purposeful governance through ongoing infrastructure development in Abuja.
The former football star made the remarks while attending the commissioning of landmark projects across the FCT.
Responding to questions on whether his regular presence at major government events indicated an intention to seek political office, Yobo said the future remains uncertain.
“You can never truly tell what will happen; the future is always in God’s hands. As for whether I will join politics, you can never say never,” he said.
Reflecting on his career representing Nigeria on the global stage, Yobo noted that leadership has long been part of his journey.
“I am a sportsman, but I have spent most of my life abroad, served as captain of the Nigerian national team and held leadership positions before,” he stated.
The former Super Eagles skipper explained that his growing interest in governance stems from his understanding of the impact of public policies on the lives of citizens.
“I am naturally interested because politics and governance shape our daily lives. You just never know what the future holds. When the time is right, God will decide,” he said.
Yobo, however, stressed that his attendance at the project commissioning ceremonies was primarily to witness the transformation taking place in the nation’s capital under the current FCT administration.
He described Mr Wike as his former governor and said he joined millions of Nigerians in celebrating the ongoing urban renewal and infrastructure development reshaping Abuja.
