The Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, on Monday honoured an invitation by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), appearing before the anti-graft agency in connection with its ongoing investigation into the activities of the disputed Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council (PFIPC).
His lawyer, Jiti Ogunye, disclosed this in a statement, explaining that Gbajabiamila’s appearance before the Commission was in compliance with a directive from President Bola Tinubu.
According to the statement, the Chief of Staff arrived at the ICPC headquarters at about 3:00 p.m. on Monday, where he made a statement and answered questions relating to the investigation into the alleged fake agency.
Ogunye said: “In full cooperation with the ICPC, acting as directed by the President of Nigeria, I hereby confirm that my client, Femi Gbajabiamila, Chief of Staff to the President of Nigeria, responded to the invitation of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) and appeared at about 3:00 p.m. on Monday as part of the ongoing investigation into the activities of the fake PFIPC agency, among others.”
He added that after providing his statement and responding to the Commission’s questions, Gbajabiamila returned to his official duties.
The investigation centres on the purported Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council (PFIPC), which has been publicly disowned by relevant government institutions as an unauthorised and non-existent government agency.
The Nigerian Government has maintained that the body was never established through any lawful process and has cautioned the public against dealing with it, describing it as a fake agency operating outside official government structures.
