The Nigerian Government has dismissed as false reports circulating on social media alleging that the Federal Government Girls’ College (FGGC), Monguno, Borno State, was attacked, assuring parents and guardians that the school remains safe and secure.
In a statement issued by the Ministry of Education’s Director of Press, Mrs Boriowo Folasade, the ministry described the reports as misleading, warning that the circulation of unverified information could cause unnecessary panic, anxiety and fear among parents, students and the general public.
The ministry stated that no attack occurred at FGGC Monguno, adding that all students, staff and boarding facilities remain safe, while academic and other school activities continue without disruption.
The Minister of Education, Dr Maruf Alausa, reaffirmed that the safety, security and welfare of students in all Federal Government Colleges remain a top priority of the Nigerian Government. He noted that FGGC Monguno operates under robust security arrangements designed to safeguard students, staff and school facilities.
“No student of the college was involved in the incident being falsely linked to the institution,” the minister said.
He clarified that the individuals affected were remedial students outside the college and that the Borno State Government had already taken appropriate steps to ensure their safety and welfare.
The ministry urged journalists, bloggers, social media users and online platforms to verify information through credible and official sources before publishing or sharing reports.
It warned that the deliberate spread of false information undermines public confidence and distracts from ongoing efforts to provide safe and conducive learning environments across the country.
The minister also appealed to parents and guardians to remain calm and maintain confidence in the safety of their children, insisting that there is no security threat at FGGC Monguno.
The ministry reiterated its commitment to working closely with security agencies, state governments and school authorities to sustain the safety and security of Federal Government Colleges nationwide.
