Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has commended President Bola Tinubu for approving the establishment of a new Army battalion in the state.
He said the move will strengthen efforts to tackle banditry, terrorism and other security threats across Kwara.
The new military formation will be located in Omu-Aran, Irepodun Local Government Area, and is expected to enhance security operations across Kwara and surrounding areas.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, AbdulRazaq described the development as a major boost to ongoing efforts to improve security and protect residents.
He also praised the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, for what he called the swift processing of the state’s request for increased military presence.
“I express our appreciation to the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, for the swiftness with which he graciously processed our request for more hands to strengthen the presence of the Army in the state,” the governor said.
AbdulRazaq further acknowledged the contributions of the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA), the military, the Department of State Services (DSS), and the Nigeria Police Force in the fight against terrorism, banditry and other violent crimes.
He said the new battalion would provide additional manpower and resources to support counterterrorism and anti-kidnapping operations in the state.
“On behalf of the people and government of our state, I wholeheartedly thank Mr President for yet another promise kept to the state. We are confident that the new battalion will greatly strengthen counterterrorism and anti-kidnapping operations across various theatres,” he stated.
The governor also highlighted ongoing multi-agency security efforts aimed at rescuing kidnapping victims and clearing criminal elements from forested areas within the state.
