APC Women’s Directorate Intensifies Grassroots Mobilisation ahead of 2027

Glory Ohagwu, Abuja

The Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Hajiya Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, has reaffirmed the APC Women’s Mobilisation Directorate’s commitment to grassroots engagement and women’s empowerment ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Sulaiman-Ibrahim who is the Secretary of the Directorate, spoke at the Women Stakeholders’ Engagement and Town Hall Meeting in Calabar, Cross River State, ahead of the Tinubu-Shettima 2027 Campaign Council flag-off rally.

She said the delegation was in the state at the instance of the First Lady and Chair of the Directorate, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, to deliver a message of support and empowerment to women.

” She is a mother who is good to the women, a mother who knows what is good for the children, a mother who knows good things for the family. She is the mother who has sent us here with the message: Go empower women. Today you will be empowered,” she said

The Minister said the engagement was intended to encourage women’s empowerment and participation, recalling the First Lady’s assurance to women during an engagement in Enugu.

Quoting Senator Tinubu, she said: “Women, as far as I am here, you are not alone; you will be okay.”

She added: “You know that since the First Lady took office, she has remained unrelenting.”

The meeting brought together women leaders, grassroots representatives and political stakeholders to discuss President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda 2.0: From Reforms to Prosperity, focusing on economic opportunities, inclusive development and women’s empowerment.

The wife of the Cross River State Governor, Mrs Eyoanwan Otu, urged women to strengthen unity and sustain grassroots mobilisation for the APC ahead of the 2027 elections.

Mrs Otu called on them to set aside personal grievances and work towards common objectives, saying: “Whatever it is that has been bothering us, whatever we think has been our pain, let’s bury the hatchets and move on,” she said.

She also highlighted her medical outreach programme, saying it held 12 editions in three years and conducted more than 2,000 surgeries.

“Health is wealth. Since His Excellency cannot be everywhere, while he is trying to get things done administratively and in structural development, there must be somebody to bridge the gap,” Mrs Otu  said.

She urged women to take the party’s message to communities, wards, polling units, churches and businesses, while sustaining its grassroots structure.

Earlier, Sulaiman-Ibrahim joined the Directorate’s Director, Dr Mary Alile, Senator Abiodun Olujimi, Hajiya Zainab Abubakar, and women leaders at the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital for the Renewed Hope Medical Outreach, where the Directorate extended economic support to Nursing Mothers, children, and the vulnerable.

The visit, ahead of the Tinubu- Shettima campaign rally, formed part of the Directorate’s engagement with women and vulnerable groups. The outreach was presented as reflecting the administration’s stated focus on the wellbeing of women, children and other vulnerable Nigerians.
