The Rivers State Government has commended members of the State Task Force on Primary Health Care for their dedication to improving healthcare services, saying their commitment has continued to drive positive changes in the state’s primary healthcare system.
The commendation came from the Deputy Governor and Chairman of the State Task Force on Primary Health Care, Professor Ngozi Odu, during the 2026 Second Quarter Review Meeting of the Task Force held at the Government House in Port Harcourt.
Professor Odu said the steady progress recorded in the primary healthcare sector over the past three years was made possible through teamwork, commitment and the determination of members to continually improve service delivery.
She noted that members of the Task Force had consistently raised the standard of their performance, creating healthy competition that has translated into better healthcare outcomes across the state.
“The achievements recorded over the past three years reflect the commitment, teamwork and determination of members of the Task Force to strengthen primary healthcare services across Rivers State.”
The Deputy Governor described the progress as encouraging but urged members to sustain the momentum by remaining focused on expanding access to quality healthcare, particularly at the grassroots.
She advised participants at the quarterly review meeting to ensure their presentations were practical and solution-oriented by highlighting major accomplishments, challenges and workable recommendations.
“Our discussions should remain concise and focused on practical solutions that will further improve primary healthcare delivery across the state.”
Professor Odu also commended the Executive Secretary of the Rivers State Primary Health Care Management Board, Dr. Chituru Adele, for providing effective leadership and ensuring efficient coordination of the Board’s activities.
She disclosed that reports from healthcare workers, as well as observations from visits to primary healthcare facilities, indicated noticeable improvements in service delivery, operational efficiency and overall performance.
According to her, the progress recorded by the Board reflects the collective efforts of its leadership and members of the task force.
“The improvements witnessed across our primary healthcare facilities demonstrate the value of collaboration, effective leadership and the commitment of every stakeholder.”
Professor Odu stressed that continued cooperation among government agencies, healthcare professionals and other stakeholders remains critical to achieving the state’s goal of providing accessible, responsive and efficient primary healthcare services for all residents.
The meeting also enabled members of the Task Force to review second-quarter performance, assess ongoing health interventions and outline strategies for sustaining the gains already achieved in Rivers State’s primary healthcare sector.
