The Nigerian Army has intensified pressure on armed groups operating in the South-East, recording another intelligence-driven breakthrough that further weakens criminal networks and reinforces ongoing efforts to secure communities, protect critical infrastructure and sustain regional stability.
The operational update was disclosed by the Nigerian Army through Operation UDO KA, which stated that troops of Sector 4, Joint Task Force South-East, conducted a precision operation that led to the recovery of weapons and ammunition from a suspected criminal hideout in Rivers State.

The military said the success reflects its sustained offensive strategy aimed at denying criminal elements freedom of action across the theatre.
According to the operational assessment, troops acting on credible intelligence raided a forest enclave at Awara Community Waterside in Ohaji/Egbema Local Government Area and along the Omoku–Ogbaku–Ndoni axis during the early hours of 23 July.
The location was believed to have served as a staging base where criminal gangs planned kidnappings and coordinated attacks against security personnel and civilians.
The operation resulted in the recovery of one Lee-Enfield MK I rifle, one G3 rifle, 116 rounds of 5.56mm ammunition and 13 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition. The Army disclosed that clearance operations remain ongoing to eliminate every criminal presence within the general area and consolidate security gains.
Military authorities noted that the latest recovery represents the fourth successful seizure of illegal arms and ammunition by troops within the past two weeks, underscoring the growing effectiveness of intelligence-led operations and the expanding collaboration between the Nigerian Army, other security agencies and members of the public.
The sustained recoveries, the Army assessed, are steadily degrading the operational capability of criminal groups and restricting their capacity to threaten lives and property.
The Nigerian Army reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining aggressive offensive operations until all criminal elements are dismantled and denied safe havens. It also urged residents to continue providing timely and credible intelligence, stressing that public cooperation remains essential to achieving lasting peace, security and stability across the South-East.
