The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mr Nyesom Wike, has assured residents that political campaigns ahead of the 2027 general elections will not distract the administration from delivering ongoing infrastructure projects, stressing that performance remains the government’s strongest campaign message.
Wike gave the assurance on Wednesday after inspecting the construction of the Arterial Road N16 from Ring Road II to Ring Road III, linking Jahi, Gwarimpa and Karsana, being executed by CBC Global, as well as the 7.3-kilometre Tunga Madaki–Zuba Road connecting the Abuja–Kaduna Highway, handled by China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC).
The minister expressed satisfaction with the progress recorded on the Arterial Road N16 project, revealing that the contractor had assured the FCT Administration that the road would be completed by January.
He said the administration’s achievements in infrastructure development would remain its strongest campaign message.
“We are already campaigning with our performance. The major campaign is to provide the dividends of democracy. What are you going to tell the people when you have nothing to show? Our campaign is showing what we have done,” Wike said.
The minister maintained that governance would remain the administration’s priority despite the approaching election season, adding that the visible transformation across the FCT reflected the government’s commitment to fulfilling its promises.
He noted that the administration had a credible record of completed and ongoing projects, which would speak for themselves whenever Nigerians assessed its performance.
Describing the Arterial Road N16 as a strategic infrastructure project, Wike said its completion would significantly improve connectivity and open up the Gwarimpa axis for further development.
He assured the contractor of continued government support through prompt funding to ensure the project is delivered on schedule.
On the Tunga Madaki–Zuba Road project, the minister commended CCECC for maintaining steady progress despite the rainy season, noting that the contractor had shifted attention to drainage works while earthworks slowed because of the weather.
He disclosed that the company had assured the administration that the project would be completed by December.
Wike also announced that approval had been granted for the relocation of electricity poles along the corridor to facilitate the installation of street lighting.
The minister praised Chinese construction firms handling major projects in the FCT for their commitment and professionalism, noting that many commence work without waiting for mobilisation payments because of their confidence in the government’s ability to meet its contractual obligations.
He reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to providing adequate funding for ongoing projects and urged contractors to sustain the quality and pace of work to ensure timely completion.
The inspection forms part of the FCT Administration’s routine monitoring of critical infrastructure projects to ensure they are delivered on schedule for the benefit of residents.
