The Nigerian Army has strengthened its partnership with Guaranty Trust Bank (GTBank) to expand digital financial services and reinforce institutional support for personnel.
In a statement, the Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Lieutenant Colonel Appolonia Anele, said the renewed collaboration followed a meeting between the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, and a GTBank delegation led by the bank’s Executive Director, Mr Ahmed Liman, at the Army Headquarters in Abuja.
During the meeting, the COAS described GTBank as a dependable institutional partner whose financial innovations have complemented the Army’s transformation agenda by promoting financial inclusion, improving administrative efficiency and enhancing personnel welfare.

Lieutenant General Shaibu noted that the Presidential approval for increased recruitment and the establishment of new formations require a technology-driven banking system capable of delivering seamless financial services to personnel nationwide.
In line with the Nigerian Army’s Soldier First philosophy, the Army Chief urged GTBank to expand its corporate social responsibility initiatives to include wounded-in-action personnel, widows and orphans of fallen soldiers.
He also requested the installation of Automated Teller Machines (ATMs) in newly established and remote military barracks to improve access to banking services, reduce unnecessary troop movement and support operational responsiveness.

Responding, GTBank Executive Director Ahmed Liman reaffirmed the bank’s commitment to supporting the Nigerian Army through tailored financial solutions that comply with government regulations, including the Treasury Single Account (TSA) policy.
He highlighted the bank’s specialised services for government institutions, including dedicated trade desks for processing Letters of Credit to facilitate defence procurement, secure digital salary administration platforms, contractor payment solutions and institutional funds management services.
Liman also outlined military-focused products such as the GT Patriot Account, which offers waived banking charges and concessionary lending rates for personnel, as well as pension management services designed to strengthen the long-term financial security of Nigerian Army officers and soldiers.
The engagement underscores the Nigerian Army’s commitment to leveraging strategic public-private partnerships to improve troop welfare, modernise institutional support systems and strengthen operational effectiveness beyond the battlefield.
