The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mr Nyesom Wike, has said that real estate developers are taking advantage of the FCT Administration’s expanding road infrastructure, with new building projects rapidly emerging along newly constructed road corridors across the territory.
Wike made the remarks on Friday after inspecting the ongoing construction of the access road to the FCT Fire Service Station (Arterial Road SI), linking Ring Road II in Kaura District to Oladipo Diya Way in Gaduwa District, Abuja.
The project comprises the construction of one collector road, two important local streets and a minor access road.
The minister also highlighted the positive socio-economic impact of the new road infrastructure, noting that the surge in development is creating employment opportunities for young people.
He emphasised the strategic importance of the access road, saying its completion would transform the landscape of the area and stimulate economic activities.
Wike expressed satisfaction with the pace of work, noting the significant progress made since his last inspection, particularly the completion of the bridge structure.
While the first phase of the project connects to the newly completed bridge, the minister disclosed that he had directed the contractor to extend the road to maximise its benefits for residents.
“The first segment of this road involves constructing the bridge that leads to that point, but we have instructed the contractor to extend it to Oladipo Diya Way.
“I have put considerable pressure on them because it will be more meaningful if the extension is completed as part of the project,” he said.
Despite the additional scope of work, Wike said the contractor remained confident of delivering the project by December.
“They are still insisting that they will hand over the project by December. What I do not yet know is whether the extension will also be completed within that timeline.
“This project will significantly transform the topography and landscape of the area once it is completed,” he stated.
To sustain the pace of work, the minister assured the contractor of prompt payment to facilitate uninterrupted construction.
“We are pleased with the quality of work carried out so far. We are returning to ensure that payments are made promptly so they can accelerate the work.
“We believe the company will do its best to complete the project within the agreed timeframe,” Wike said.
