The Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Hajiya Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, has reaffirmed the Nigerian Government’s commitment to grassroots women’s economic empowerment, urging members of Women Affinity Groups (WAGs) in Adamawa State to strengthen their savings culture and seize emerging opportunities for sustainable economic growth.
Speaking during a working visit to FOMWAN 1 Women Affinity Group in Fufore Local Government Area and Success Women Affinity Group in Numan LGA, of Adamawa State, the Minister commended the women for demonstrating financial discipline, collective responsibility and resilience, qualities she described as critical to building inclusive and sustainable communities.
She said the groups exemplify the vision of the Nigeria for Women Programme Scale-Up (NFWP-SU), which is transforming grassroots livelihoods by enabling women to save collectively, access credit, strengthen local governance and transition into the formal economy.
Addressing the members, the Minister emphasised that their weekly savings, mutual support and shared commitment represent more than community activities; they are laying the foundation for economic independence and national development.
She assured the women that the Renewed Hope administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu remains firmly committed to supporting their journey from community-based savings groups to recognised, financially linked enterprises capable of creating lasting prosperity.

Highlighting the programme’s growing impact, the Minister disclosed that the NFWP-SU has reached more than 1,305,941 women across Nigeria with Adamawa State, having 55,828 women belonging to 2,445 Women Affinity Groups spread across Fufore, Numan and Madagali Local Government Areas, with cumulative savings exceeding ₦464.9 million.
Minister Sulaiman-Ibrahim stressed that empowering women extends beyond funding and technical assistance, noting that community institutions built by women also deserve visibility, recognition and sustained government support.
The minister’s visit underscores the Nigerian government’s resolve to deepen financial inclusion, strengthen community resilience and ensure that women remain at the heart of Nigeria’s grassroots development agenda.
