The Nigerian Army has expanded welfare and operational support for frontline personnel with the commissioning of new infrastructure at Headquarters 25 Brigade, Damboa.
The Commander Infantry Corps, Major General Godwin Mutkut, reaffirmed that improved troop welfare remains central to sustaining combat effectiveness against terrorism in the North-East.
The Acting Military Information Officer, Headquarters Joint Task Force (North East) Operation HADIN KAI, Captain Mohammed Goni, disclosed that the commitment was made when the Commander Infantry Corps, Major General Godwin Mutkut, undertook an operational visit to Headquarters 25 Brigade on 30 July, where he reviewed ongoing military operations, commissioned new facilities and assessed the Brigade’s operational readiness.
During the visit, Major General Mutkut received a detailed operational briefing covering the security situation, ongoing missions, achievements and operational challenges within the Brigade’s Area of Responsibility before commissioning newly completed infrastructure projects executed by the Commander 25 Brigade, Brigadier General Igwe Omoke.
The projects include the Brigade Commander’s Residence, the Headquarters Office Complex Annex and the Brigade Guard Room.
Addressing officers and soldiers, the Infantry Corps Commander conveyed the commendation of the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, for the troops’ resilience and professionalism in counter-terrorism operations.
He emphasised that ongoing welfare initiatives are designed to improve personnel well-being while strengthening operational performance and mission success across the theatre.
Major General Mutkut also reminded personnel to uphold the ethics and traditions of the Nigerian Army, stressing the Service’s zero-tolerance policy on drug abuse, theft, indiscipline and the misuse of social media.
He further encouraged soldiers to maintain strong family relationships, describing a stable home environment as an important contributor to operational morale.
The visit reflects the Nigerian Army’s broader strategy of combining infrastructure development, leadership engagement and welfare investment to strengthen frontline formations while sustaining pressure on terrorist groups operating across the North-East.
