The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Voice of Nigeria (VON) Chapel, has partnered with the Jargreen Community Development Project to organise a five-day free medical outreach for members of staff as part of efforts to promote preventive healthcare and enhance workplace wellbeing.
The outreach, scheduled to run from 3 to 7 August 2026, will provide staff with free basic medical services, including blood pressure and blood glucose screening, malaria testing, eye examinations, deworming, health education and other essential health assessments.
The initiative aims to encourage the early detection of health conditions, promote healthy living and motivate staff to take greater responsibility for their wellbeing through regular medical check-ups.
Organisers said the partnership reflects a shared commitment to improving health awareness among journalists and media professionals, whose demanding schedules, tight deadlines and high-pressure assignments often leave little time for routine medical care.

They noted that preventive healthcare remains one of the most effective ways to reduce the burden of disease, stressing that many serious health conditions can be effectively managed when detected early.
Staff have therefore been encouraged to take full advantage of the outreach, regardless of their current state of health, as several medical conditions may develop without noticeable symptoms in their early stages.
According to the organisers, the programme also offers journalists an opportunity to lead by example by embracing preventive healthcare while continuing to educate the public on the importance of regular health screening.
They further emphasised that investing in the health of media professionals enhances productivity, improves service delivery and strengthens journalists’ capacity to effectively fulfil their responsibility of keeping the public informed.
The five-day outreach is expected to boost health awareness among Voice of Nigeria staff while reinforcing the importance of prevention, early diagnosis and timely medical intervention in achieving healthier and more productive lives.
