The wife of the Anambra State Governor, Dr Nonye Soludo has received the 2026 BudgIT Active Citizens Health Activism Award for her contributions to preventive healthcare and community wellness.
Mrs Soludo received the award at the third edition of the BudgIT Active Citizens Awards in Lagos, where she was recognised for her Healthy Living with Nonye Soludo Programme.
According to a statement by her Media Aide, Daniel Ezeigwe, the Governor’s wife emerged ahead of other finalists, including health and gender rights advocate Ramatu Ada Ochekliye and public health and social impact professional Sidney Sampson.
The selection process considered innovation, measurable impact, sustainability, inclusion and leadership.
The organisers commended Mrs Soludo’s efforts to promote preventive healthcare, healthy lifestyles and improved community health outcomes.
Since becoming First Lady, she has championed initiatives focused on fitness, maternal and child health, nutrition education, environmental sanitation and support for schoolgirls.
Reacting to the award, Mrs Soludo dedicated the recognition to healthcare workers, volunteers, development partners, residents and members of the Healthy Living with Nonye Soludo Programme.
She described the honour as ”a call to deepen community-based healthcare delivery and expand preventive health education.”
She also appreciated BudgIT, Civic Hive and the Ford Foundation for the recognition, pledging to expand the reach and impact of the programme.
BudgIT Country Director, Vahyala Kwaga, said; “the Active Citizens Awards were designed to recognise individuals and organisations taking practical steps to address societal challenges, promote citizen participation and advance national development.”
The awards, supported by Civic Hive and the Ford Foundation, recognise contributions to advocacy, innovation, research, civic participation and community development across Nigeria.
