Kwara Governor Urges Corps Members to Embrace Peace, Tolerance

By Tunde Akanbi, Ilorin

The Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, has urged newly deployed Corps members to embrace the values of tolerance, peace and hospitality for which the state is known as they undergo their 21-day orientation course.

The Governor said this while addressing the 2026 Batch “C” Stream I corps members in Ilorin, the state capital.

At least 2,740 participating Corps members took an oath of allegiance administered by Chief Magistrate A.M. Ndakene, who represented the State Chief Judge.

He called on them to be partners in the progress of Kwara and urged them to be disciplined, security-conscious, build bridges and strengthen the national fabric.

“Our nation needs your energy, ideas, and idealism. As corps members, you are not merely visitors in Kwara; you are partners in our development. Our administration remains committed to youth empowerment, peace, and inclusive prosperity,” the Governor said while declaring the orientation camp open.

“Use these three weeks to acquire skills, develop entrepreneurial ideas, and begin building your independence. Government and development partners are ready to support Corps Members with bankable ideas after service,” the Governor said.

Excited by their large turnout during the Independence Day celebration held the previous day, Governor AbdulRazaq, in appreciation, announced a donation of N50,000 each for the Corps members across the board in the state.

This support grant, he explained, is to cushion the impact of current economic realities and motivate them as they begin their service year.

“On a lighter note, we’ll support the NYSC in ensuring that your other social activities like Mr and Mrs NYSC, the talent shows, and Mr Macho are fully supported by the state government,” the Governor declared, drawing thunderous applause from the participants.

The Commissioner for Youth Development, Shehu Ndanusa Usman, enjoined the Corps members to be disciplined and committed to all activities of the camp, explaining that the drills and lectures, for instance, are designed to build their character and prepare them for leadership.

He assured them that his Ministry would be working closely with NYSC and other partners to identify corps members with viable ideas in a bid to mentor and support them to thrive.

State Coordinator for NYSC, Musa Tukur, said the 2740 Corpers under Batch “C” Stream I comprised Lagos Corps members, who he explained were dislodged to Kwara Camp to observe their orientation course.

He said, “This is because of the accommodating arm of the government and good people of Kwara that we have continued to host Lagos Corps members here, and other youth across the country.”

Tukur, therefore, hailed Governor AbdulRazaq for his constant support and solicited more support, including the provision of operational vehicles and toilet facilities for their mobility and comfort.
