Russia and Ukraine have exchanged 103 prisoners of war each, officials from both countries said on Wednesday.
The exchange is part of a series of prisoner swaps conducted by the two countries since Russia launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said; “the returning Ukrainians included members of the Armed Forces, State Border Guard Service and National Guard.”
The Russian Interfax news agency, citing the Russian Ministry of Defence, also confirmed the exchange.
Ukraine’s military intelligence chief, Oleh Ivashchenko, said “another prisoner exchange could take place before the end of the month.”
He said; “the next exchange was expected to include some Ukrainian servicemen who had been held for a prolonged period, including those who fought in the defence of Mariupol.”
The two countries have continued to conduct prisoner exchanges despite disagreements over the terms of a potential peace agreement.
