Troops Intensify Offensive Against Terrorists Across North West

Nokai Origin, Abuja

Operation FANSAN YAMMA has intensified pressure on terrorist networks across the North West, with troops rescuing 10 civilians in separate operations spanning Sokoto, Kebbi and Zamfara States.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the Media Information Officer, Joint Task Force North West Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, disclosed that the rescues followed separate interventions in which troops responded to terrorist activity and kidnapping incidents across the three states.

Troops conducting a patrol in Isa Local Government Area in Sokoto State on 19 August encountered a terrorist ambush and responded swiftly, forcing the attackers to flee in disarray.

Five civilians were rescued during the encounter and subsequently reunited with their families, while two motorcycles abandoned by the terrorists were recovered.

The previous day, troops acting on intelligence concerning three kidnapped victims in Danko Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi State launched a search and rescue operation that resulted in the recovery of all three victims. They were profiled and handed over to the appropriate local authorities.

A separate intervention in Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State on 18 August resulted in the rescue of two additional captives after troops responded to reported terrorist activity in the area. The rapid mobilisation compelled the terrorists to abandon the victims and flee into the surrounding area.

The two rescued persons, who had sustained gunshot wounds, were evacuated to a medical facility for urgent treatment, while troops continued efforts to track and neutralise the fleeing terrorists.

The spread of the operations across Sokoto, Kebbi and Zamfara underscores the continuing contest over mobility and civilian access across the North West, where terrorist groups and kidnappers rely on movement between rural communities and vulnerable transport corridors.

Rapid intervention therefore remains central to preventing abductors from moving victims deeper into their operating areas.

Danja stated that the Theatre Command commended the troops for their vigilance and swift response, while reaffirming its determination to sustain pressure on terrorist elements across the Joint Operations Area.

The Theatre Command also urged residents to continue providing timely and credible information to security forces, stressing that public cooperation remains critical to enabling rapid responses, protecting lives and property, and sustaining pressure on criminal networks across the region
