Troops of Joint Task Force (North West), Operation FANSAN YAMMA (OPFY), have recorded major operational successes across the North-West theatre, intercepting a suspected arms courier, recovering a large cache of ammunition and rescuing rustled cattle from armed criminals.
In a statement issued by the Media Information Officer, Joint Task Force (North West), Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, the operations were part of sustained efforts to disrupt terrorist logistics networks, deny criminal elements access to weapons and protect communities across the theatre.
On 5 June 2026, troops of Sector 2 OPFY deployed at a checkpoint in Kaura Namoda intercepted a civilian vehicle travelling towards Shinkafi Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

Rounds of Ammunition
During a thorough search, troops recovered a locally fabricated pistol, a magazine and over 1,000 rounds of ammunition concealed in a sack containing millet, among other items.
According to the statement, preliminary examination revealed that the recovered weapons and ammunition were allegedly being transported by a 42-year-old suspect identified as Mustapha Abubakar, who is suspected of involvement in the illegal movement of arms and ammunition to terrorist elements operating in the region.
The suspect was taken into custody while the recovered exhibits were secured for further investigation. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend other members of the suspected criminal network.
In a related development, Lieutenant Colonel Danja stated that troops of Sector 1 OPFY foiled a cattle rustling operation in Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State on 3 June 2026 following a distress call from a local herder.
The troops mobilised and positioned along the suspected escape route, engaging the criminals as they attempted to move the stolen livestock away from the area.
The armed criminals abandoned the cattle and fled into nearby bushes under military pressure, resulting in the recovery of 53 cattle which were later handed over to their rightful owner.
The Joint Task Force (North West), Operation FANSAN YAMMA, reaffirmed its commitment to degrading terrorist and criminal networks, disrupting illegal arms supply routes and protecting livelihoods across the region.
The Command commended the troops for their vigilance and professionalism while urging members of the public to continue providing credible information to security agencies.
