The ECOWAS Commission has received six diplomatic missions with their letters of credence to the President of the Commission and accredited them at the Commission’s new Headquarters in Abuja, Nigeria.
The diplomats accredited by the Commission’s President, Dr Omar Alieu Touray, were Anna Westerholm, Ambassador of Sweden; Nicolas Perazzo Naon, Ambassador of Argentina; Ghulam Muhammad Awan, Head of Delegation of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies; Walde Natangwe Ndevashiya, High Commissioner of the Republic of Namibia; Gholamreza Mahdavi Raja, Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran; and Mohamed Abdelaal Haroun, Ambassador of the Republic of Sudan.

Speaking after the accreditation ceremony, Dr Touray congratulated the diplomats on their appointments and “reaffirmed ECOWAS’ commitment to deepening cooperation and strengthening its longstanding relations with their countries and organisations.”
The President of the Commission emphasised the importance of sustained partnerships in advancing global and regional peace and security, inclusive and sustainable economic development, and regional integration in West Africa.
On behalf of their government and organisation, the newly accredited diplomats thanked ECOWAS for the warm welcome and “reaffirmed their commitment to closer collaboration with the Commission”.
The Ambassadors also pledged continued support for ECOWAS initiatives that promote peace, security, humanitarian assistance, sustainable development, and regional integration in West Africa.
