A humanoid robot developed by Chinese smartphone maker Honor has reportedly run 100 metres in 9.32 seconds, beating the men’s world record set by Jamaican sprint legend Usain Bolt.
China’s state broadcaster reported on Saturday that the humanoid, named “Lightning”, reached a peak speed of 14.5 metres per second during a preparatory test event ahead of the second World Humanoid Robot Games.
The robot’s time was 0.26 seconds faster than Bolt’s 9.58-second world record, set in Berlin, Germany, in 2009.
The performance highlights the rapid development of humanoid robotics in China, as manufacturers and research institutions increasingly focus on improving robots’ speed, balance and ability to perform human-like movements.

The second World Humanoid Robot Games began on Saturday, bringing together humanoid robots for competitions and demonstrations of their capabilities.
