China’s President Xi Jinping is set to visit Egypt for his first state visit to the North African nation in a decade, in a move expected to deepen economic, trade and strategic cooperation between China and Africa.
Xi will hold talks with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi on expanding their comprehensive strategic partnership and advancing cooperation in key sectors, including trade, investment, infrastructure and security.
The leaders are also expected to discuss regional and international issues, with a focus on strengthening collaboration between China and African countries amid evolving global economic and geopolitical dynamics.
The visit comes as Egypt and China commemorate 70 years of diplomatic relations, a partnership that has grown into one of China’s most significant relationships on the African continent.

Since the elevation of bilateral ties to a comprehensive strategic partnership in 2014, cooperation between the two countries has expanded significantly across economic, industrial and defence sectors.
Economic relations have continued to strengthen, with Egyptian companies signing 17 export agreements worth about 168 million dollars with Chinese buyers last month. The agreements cover agricultural products, textiles, minerals and engineering goods.
China has also remained one of Egypt’s largest trading partners, with bilateral trade reaching approximately 19.52 billion dollars in 2025, according to Egypt’s Ministry of Investment and Foreign Trade.
Beyond trade, defence cooperation has expanded, with both countries conducting the joint Eagles of Civilisation 2026 air exercise at Egyptian military bases earlier this month.
Analysts say the visit underscores Egypt’s growing role as a strategic gateway for Chinese investment and engagement in Africa, while reinforcing Beijing’s broader efforts to strengthen partnerships across the continent.
The visit is expected to yield new agreements aimed at boosting economic cooperation, expanding market access and supporting development initiatives that align with Africa’s industrialisation and trade ambitions.
