President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has mourned the General Secretary of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Emmanuel Ugboaja, describing him as a strong voice in the workers’ movement whose contributions to constructive engagement with government and employers will be greatly missed.
In a condolence message issued by his Presidential Spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga, the President extended his condolences to the NLC, its affiliate unions, the legal profession and the family of the late labour leader.
He described Ugboaja’s death as a significant loss to the labour community, noting his commitment to advancing the rights, welfare and dignity of Nigerian workers.

The President said Ugboaja, who died on Thursday, devoted his professional life to the service of workers and brought to the labour movement a rare combination of legal knowledge, strategic insight, administrative competence and an unwavering commitment to justice.
“As General Secretary, he carried enormous responsibility, coordinating the affairs and providing strategic direction for the operations of the labour movement and its affiliate unions at critical moments. He helped to forge a common purpose among workers and their representatives,” the Nigerian Leader stated.
The President also acknowledged Ugboaja’s central role in negotiations with government and employers, where his legal training, experience and understanding of industrial relations proved invaluable.
He prayed that God Almighty would comfort the late labour leader’s family, the labour community and all those mourning his passing.
President Tinubu urged them to take solace in the knowledge that Ugboaja lived a life of meaningful service to the country and the workers’ movement.
