The Nigerian Government has pledged a stronger and more coordinated security response in Kano following the recent bandit attack in Garun Mallam Local Government Area.
The Minister of State for Defence, Dr Bello Matawalle gave the assurance during a condolence and assessment visit to the Kano State Government House following the August 29 attack on Chiroma Village in Garun Mallam LGA.
He said the Nigerian Government remained committed to defeating insecurity and restoring lasting peace across the country, while assuring residents that additional operational support will be provided to security forces.
The Defence Ministry’s account of the engagement, signed by Queeneth Iheoma-Hart, CIO, for the Director, Information and Public Relations, said the visit formed part of the Nigerian Government’s broader response to the security situation and its renewed emphasis on proactive operations, strategic planning and stronger collaboration with state governments.

Matawalle said President Bola Tinubu remained committed to ending insecurity and had constituted a committee to develop a Five-Year Defence and Security Plan aimed at providing a longer-term framework for addressing the country’s security threats.
He also highlighted the response to the Garun Mallam incident, noting that the Commander 3 Brigade, Kano, Brigadier General Jimoh, led a swift joint rescue operation involving personnel of the Joint Task Force from Hawan-Kwano and Kwanar Dangora camps.
The operation resulted in the rescue of kidnapped victims around the Yan-Kifi Bridge and Marabar Kwari areas of Garun Mallam Local Government Area.
Matawalle commended the troops involved in the operation and said the Nigerian Government would continue to strengthen the operational capacity of the security services.
He assured Kano State that additional support would be provided, including fighting vehicles, weapons and other operational enablers required to sustain security operations.
“We will continue doing everything possible to support our security services to ensure our country is safe. I assure you that soon, insecurity will be a thing of the past, and we will all live in peace and prosperity,” Matawalle said.
The Minister also stressed that ending insecurity would require sustained cooperation among communities, state governments and the Nigerian Government.
He urged citizens to provide timely and credible information to security agencies to support effective responses to emerging threats.
Security Meeting
During the visit, Matawalle also held a closed-door security meeting with the leadership of 3 Brigade and other formations operating in the area.
Governor Abba Yusuf, in his response, thanked the Minister for visiting the state and reaffirmed the Kano State Government’s commitment to continued cooperation with the Nigerian Government and security agencies.
The Governor expressed confidence in the leadership of the Minister and pledged that the state would sustain its collaboration with federal authorities in efforts to strengthen security and protect communities across Kano.
