The National Speaker of the Women Parliament of the Social Democratic Party, SDP, Mrs. Sa’adatu Abdullahi, has urged women to build strong and functional structures to ensure their voices and impact are felt in party politics and Nigeria’s political space.
Hajiya Sa’adatu urged the party’s women leaders across the country to strengthen grassroots mobilisation ahead of future elections in Nigeria.
She made the call at a strategic meeting between the party’s national women leadership and state women leaders at the party’s National Secretariat in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital.
According to her, “political success cannot be achieved through wishful thinking but through organisation, sacrifice, strategy, commitment and effective grassroots engagement.”
The National Speaker said the SDP Women Parliament was determined to strengthen its structures and mobilise more women to actively participate in the party’s activities.

Hajiya Sa’adatu urged state women leaders to see themselves as strategic pillars of the party, stressing the need for focus, discipline, teamwork and commitment to the collective vision of the SDP.
Put Aside their Differences
She also called on the women to put aside their differences and work together, noting that unity among women would strengthen party structures and amplify their voices.
The National Speaker commended the state women leaders for their sacrifices, particularly those who travelled long distances to attend the meeting at their own expense.
She urged them to return to their various states with renewed determination and translate the resolutions of the meeting into measurable results.
Speaking at the meeting, the National Chairman of the SDP, Professor Sadiq Gombe, represented by the Deputy National Chairman, South Senator Ugochukwu Uba, assured women of greater inclusion in the affairs of the party.
He said the party was undergoing reforms and reorganisation to strengthen its structures and prepare for future political activities.
Professor Gombe said the SDP was committed to giving women their rightful place in political appointments, party activities and elections.
He added that the party’s forthcoming manifesto would outline its policies across various sectors, including provisions aimed at ensuring greater participation and inclusion of women.
The National Chairman described the SDP as an ideological party committed to the welfare of Nigerians and the principles contained in Chapter Two of the Nigerian Constitution.
He urged women leaders to sustain their mobilisation efforts at the grassroots and prepare women across the country for active participation in the party’s campaigns and activities.
Professor Gombe commended the National Woman Leader and other women leaders for their commitment and sacrifices in mobilising women for the growth of the SDP.
