The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ebonyi State has commenced engagements with stakeholders in Onicha Local Government Area as part of efforts to strengthen the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Speaking at a stakeholders’ meeting in Onicha, former Deputy Governor of Ebonyi State, Professor Chigozie Ogbu, said the engagement was aimed at strengthening unity within the party and mobilising members towards the forthcoming elections.
Professor Ogbu said the meeting provided an opportunity for party members and stakeholders to work together towards achieving the APC’s electoral objectives in 2027.
“I am particularly happy about the meeting because it was all about how APC can move in oneness to ensure overall victory for the party in the forthcoming general election,” he said.
A stakeholder from Onicha Local Government Area, Chief Donatus Njoku, expressed confidence in the strength of the APC in the area, saying the party had a strong presence across the local government.
The APC State Chairman, Chief Stanley Okoroemegha, also expressed optimism about the party’s performance in the 2027 elections.
He attributed the party’s growing support in the state to the policies and programmes of the state government, which he said had received the support of many residents.
Chairman of Onicha Local Government Area, Mr Ikechukwu Ogbuofia, said Governor Francis Nwifuru had urged newly sworn-in local government chairmen to promote peace and reconciliation among stakeholders.
According to him, the governor advised the council chairmen not to inherit his personal disagreements with individuals in their respective local government areas but to work towards reconciliation.
Ogbuofia said the advice was aimed at promoting unity and peaceful coexistence across the state.
He expressed confidence in the APC’s prospects in Onicha Local Government Area ahead of the 2027 elections.
Njoku, a former Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, said after the meeting that APC candidates should remain confident about their prospects in the local government.
He maintained that the party was well positioned to retain its support base in the area during the 2027 general elections.
